· The Aaron Merrick House was built for the son of William Merrick (founder of Merrickville) by Samuel Langford, a stonemason who had reputedly assisted in building the Rideau Canal, a present day UNESCO World Heritage Site.
· In the1920’s the Aaron Merrick Estate was purchased by Harry F. McLean, a wealthy engineer and industrialist who changed the face of Canada with the creation of the Dominion Construction Company, a company that built many of the railways and dams in Canada in the early to mid 1900’s. Harry McLean had a friendship with Prime Minister of Canada, William Lyon Mackenzie King who visited Harry McLean on occasion at the Aaron Merrick Estate, and commented on the structure in his diary saying;
